Thousands of Peace and Blessings Upon You, O Messenger!

Halo-the circles of light

The respected Hasan narrates: Hazreti Hasan rivayet ediyor:
He is the son of the respected Ali and Fatima, may God be pleased with them. Yani, seyyidinâ Hazreti Hasan ibn Ali ve Fatıma (radıyallahu anhüm).
He narrates it from his father, Imam Ali. Hasan'ın babasından, yani, Hazreti Ali'den.
Imam Ali narrates it from the grandfather of Hasan, namely our beloved Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: O da, Hasan'ın dedesinden, yani, Efendimiz'den (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem):
'The best of morals is good conduct.' "Ahlakların en güzeli; güzel ahlaktır."
The morality of the Messenger of God is Divine morality, the character traits of God... Allah Rasûlü'nün ahlakı, İlahî ahlak, hulukullah.
Divine beneficence, compassion, mildness and agreement... Re'fet, şefkat, mülayemet.
Overlooking the mistakes of others, forgiving major faults and wrongdoings... Kusurları görmeme, devâsâ kusurları affetmesini bilme.
Having no hatred nor holding grudges... İçinde kin ve nefret taşımama.
Acquiring the character traits of a high morality. "Mehâsin-i ahlak" diyebileceğimiz güzel ahlak ile tahalluk etme.
Staying away from inferior morals; the traits that God does not like and is deemed bad in the Prophetic Tradition and the Qur'an. "Mesâvi-i ahlak"tan uzak durmaya çalışma, Allah'ın sevmediği, Kitap ve Sünnet'te "Kötü" diye vasfedilen mesâvi-i ahlak'tan.
Some of those of which are as severe as disbelief. Bazıları küfür derecesinde olan.
Conduct that includes lying, slandering, deceit, jealousy; these can be considered to be as bad as disbelief.
The people who commit these will not be considered disbelievers, however if they consider such immorality to be harmless then they will become disbelievers, may God protect us from it. Bunları yapan kâfir olmaz; fakat mahzursuz görüp yapıyorsa şayet, kâfir olur; hafizanallahu teâlâ.
Major sins can be forgiven with sincere repentance. Günah-ı kebâir, tevbe ile affedilir.
But if there are no regrets, if people are saying 'We are at war, Fakat umursama olmuyorsa şayet, "Adam, ne olacak?
deceit is a part of war, that's why we act like this.'
This may be written, it may be over the internet; but to consistently display immoral conduct without acknowledging its harm is considered to be disbelief.
Beside this point, it is not possible to correct any wrongs or be on the correct path without following the path of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs. Antrparantez; Râşid Halifeler'in yolunda yürümeyince hiçbir eğriyi düzeltmek mümkün değildir.
You need to live a life like the respected Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali, may God be pleased with them. Hazreti Ebu Bekir gibi, Ömer gibi, Osman gibi, Ali gibi yaşayacaksın.
Even if you conquer lands that are thirty times the size of Turkey, one should pass away without valuables or without promises to install your son or son-in-law as next in line for leadership.
Yes, if one does not live like them, no wound will be treated and no wrong will be truly corrected. Evet, onlar gibi olmayınca, hiçbir kırık tamir edilemez, hiçbir yara tedavi edilemez.
We live in an era where such injustices and sicknesses are plentiful, may God protect us from it.
Unless you turn to the lifestyles of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs you will not be able to form a sense of brotherhood amongst yourselves, unless you embrace each other you will not be able to engage in dialogue with the world.
You will be in a constant state of conflict with everyone. Sürekli herkese karşı bir kavga tavrı içinde bulunursunuz;
One day you will be cursing people, the next day it will seem as if they're protecting you, you will then turn to the others and begin cursing them instead. bir gün birine söver-sayarsınız, sonra öbürü size sahip çıkıyor gibi olur, bu defa ona (öncekine) "Tevbeler tevbesi" dersiniz, daha sonra öbürüne de sövüp saymaya başlarsınız.
There are plenty of examples in today's world; the cruel who constantly bother believers and give no chance for them to exist. Günümüzde çok böylesi; musallat olmuş musallatlar, mü'minlere göz açtırmayan gaddarlar.
Even though they might have cursed someone a hundred times in the past, they will be in each other's arms today; Dün birine yüz defa sövdükleri halde, bugün onunla el ele, kucak kucağa;
the next day they will curse someone else and then end up in each arms the following day. ertesi gün başka birine sövüp sayarlar, bu defa öbürü ile kucak kucağa, el ele, muânaka içinde bulunurlar.
They will do this because they consider everything in the context of this cursed and corrupt world only. Bulunurlar; çünkü her şeyi tamamen şu mel'un, erâcif olan dünyaya bağlı yürütmektedirler.
Yes, an oft repeated statement: Evet, çok tekerrür eden bir söz:
Viewing the world from a worldly perspective. Dünya, dünyaya bakan yönüyle.
Not as the place where the Divine Names are apparent. Esmâ-i İlahiye'nin mecâlîsi olması yönüyle değil.
Not in a way that the world is an arable field to sow for the Hereafter. Âhiretin mezraası olması yönüyle değil.
Not as the pathway to the afterlife. Oranın koridoru olması yönüyle değil.
Not in a way that is an exhibition of Divine Art.
But instead, a place that satisfies the carnal soul, a pile of carcasses.
They say, 'We must have fleets of ships, villas, apartments and castles', and worship the world; they make an active effort and intention for this world, as if they are going to live here eternally. "İlle filolar, ille villalar, ille apartmanlar, ille saraylar" filan deyip dünyada ölmeyecek gibi bir niyet, bir mülahaza, bir cehd, bir gayret içinde ölüp ölüp dirilme mevzuu; böylesine dünyaya tapma.
These are people who worship the world. Bunlar, dünyaya tapan insanlar.
Even though they may prostrate in a mosque, they are the slaves of this world, they adore it. Camide secde etseler bile bunlar dünyanın kulları, dünyaperest insanlar.
There is no difference between what they are doing and worshipping al-Lat, Manat and al-Uzza. Lât'a, Menat'a, Uzzâ'ya tapmadan farkları yok bunların yaptıklarının.
Your path and method should be that of the respected Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali. Yol ve yöntem, Hazreti Ebu Bekir, Ömer, Osman, Ali ve ashabın yolu, yöntemi olmalı.
These people are 'the circles of light', halos. "Hâle" bunlar.
The Pride of Humanity is called 'the Luminous Moon'. İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu'na "Kamer-i Münîr" diyorlar, ifade ederken; "etrafa nur saçan ay."
The circles of light around him are the respected Abu Bakr, Umar, Ali and the other companions, according to their degree of closeness to him.
If a similar course as theirs cannot be attained, if you can't adapt their lifestyle as indispensable, then no wounds or fractures can be repaired. O çizgi ihraz edilmezse, bir yönüyle, o hayat tarzı sizin için "olmazsa olmaz" -hani "kırmızıçizgi" diyorlar- şeklinde kabul edilmezse, bence hiçbir yara tedavi edilemez, hiçbir kırık tamir edilemez.
All that will happen will be the appearance of new complications for any matter you try to tackle. Üzerine gittiğiniz her şeyle yeni yeni komplikasyonlara sebebiyet verirsiniz.
When you try to deal with cancer using an incorrect treatment, all you will do is accelerate its spread.
Therefore, the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Onun için, Allah Rasûlü (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) şöyle buyuruyor:
'Follow my traditions and follow the path of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs after me. "Siz, Benim sünnetime sarılın ve Benden sonra doğru yolda olan Râşid Halifeler'in yolunu yol edinin.
Hold on this path as if you were holding it tightly with your teeth.'
'This is my path, my method.' "Benim yolum, yöntemim."
In some narrations, the phrase 'the guided people' is not included. Bazı rivayetlerde, "el-mehdiyyîn" kaydı yok.
'The guided people' and 'the people of integrity and maturity in thought and action'. "Hidayete otağlarını kurmuş insanlar" demek ve aynı zamanda, rüşd içinde olanlar;
Those who know what they are doing and their path, how they look at creation, those who know their Prophet well and are very accurate in their knowledge of God. ne yaptığını, ne ettiğini, nereye gittiğini, varlığa nasıl baktığını, Peygamberi nasıl tanıdığını, Allah hakkındaki mülahazası itibarıyla nasıl isabet ettiğini bilen insanlar.
They set their marquees on the pillars of true guidance. Hidayet blokajı üzerine otağlarını kurmuşlar.
They always move on the path of righteousness. Hep doğruluk istikametinde hareket ediyorlar.
They walk on the Straight Path. Sırat-ı müstakîmde yürüyorlar.
It is the true guidance that we constantly pray for when we recite the first chapter of the Qur'an and say, 'O God! May You guide us to the Straight Path.' Fatiha'da, sizin/bizim "Allah'ım.  Bizi, sırât-ı müstakîme hidayet eyle" diyerek hep isteyip durduğumuz hidayet.
True guidance; guidance to the Straight Path. Hidayet; sırât-ı müstakîme hidayet.
Then the noble Prophet states: Sonra buyuruyor:
'Keep a firm hold on them, as if with clenched teeth.' "Azı dişlerinizle, onlara sımsıkı tutunuz."
This is an idiom; Bu, bir idyumdur;
Arabs use this term when referring to holding on to something tightly. bir şeyi sıkıca tutma mülahazası ifade edilirken, Araplar, meseleyi öyle ifade ediyorlar.
People who live their lives on this path are our noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the exalted halo around him.
We say 'halo'; this is a word that hasn't been used widely but it has been used in poetry, in literary proses. "Hâle" diyoruz; bu, çok yaygınca kullanılmamış ama şiirimizde kullanılmış, edebî nesirlerde kullanılmış bir kelime.
It seems to me that it will be, from now on we use, 'halo'; meaning the circle of light around the Luminous Moon. Evet, zannediyorum, kullanılır bundan sonra, "Hâle"; Kamer-i Münîr'in etrafındaki ışık halkası demektir o.
If our eyes are always set on them, attitudes and behaviours adjust themselves accordingly.
It is impossible to inspire others without inspired attitudes and behaviours.
If not on their path, then all that is done in the name of inspiration, in a way, may cause discord and confusion. O zaman ayarlama adına yapılan her şey, bir yönüyle, belki dağınıklığa, teşettüt-i ârâya sebebiyet vermiş olur.
The path is his path; the method is his method; the system is his system. Evet, yol, O'nun (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) yolu; yöntem, O'nun yöntemi; sistem, O'nun sistemidir.
May the Almighty God keep us on that path. Cenâb-ı Hak, o yoldan ayırmasın.
If there is one thing that the Islamic world needs, it is to capture that glorious life philosophy and that glorious life ideology at the level of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs.
That is the cure for suffering; that is the remedy of that incurable sickness. Derdin dermanı, odur; onulmaz derdin reçetesi, odur.
When speaking of poor people like myself, Abu Atahiyah says: Ebu'l Atâhiye, bencileyin insanları kınama sadedinde diyor ki:
'You expect salvation without walking on the path and bearing the difficulties; however, ships, surely can't sail on land.' "Yolunda yürümeden ve zorluklarına katlanmadan kurtuluş umuyorsun; oysaki şüphesiz gemiler karada akıp gidemezler."
But you expect and hope for emancipation, salvation. Kurtuluşu, necâtı umuyorsun, recâ ediyorsun ama.
We have been discussing the matter of 'Fear and Hope' from The Revival of the Religious Sciences. Malum, İhyâ-i Ulûmiddîn'de "Havf u Recâ" bahsindeydik.
Hope means to expect the mercy of Almighty God; Recâ, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın rahmetini ummak demektir;
it means to tie everything to that hope for mercy. her şeyi o rahmet ummasına/recâsına bağlamak demektir.
It means 'Without mercy, we can't enter Paradise, "O olmaz ise, biz Cennet'e giremeyiz;
we can't escape from Hell; o olmaz ise Cehennem'den kurtulamayız;
we can't surpass the Bridge over Hell without it, o olmaz ise, Sırât'ı geçemeyiz;
we can't preserve our steadfastness.' o olmaz ise, burada istikametimizi muhafaza edemeyiz" demektir.
The respected one says: Hazret diyor ki:
'You expect salvation, you hope for it; yet you're not walking on that path.' "Sen, necât umuyorsun, recâ ediyorsun; fakat yolunda değilsin onun."
You follow your soul's caprices, you're stuck with your desires, you live your life in the servitude of your body, you constantly say 'world, world and world', more than you say 'There is no deity but God' and then you dare hope for salvation from God. Böyle hevâ-i nefsine uymuşsun, cismâniyetine takılmışsın, bedenin güdümünde yaşıyorsun, "Dünya, dünya, dünya" deyip onu vird-i zebân ediyorsun, "La ilahe illallah" demekten daha çok "Dünya, dünya" diyorsun, sonra da kalkıp Allah'tan necât ümid ediyorsun.
'Ships do not sail on land, Bilmelisin ki, "Gemiler, kuru zeminde yüzmezler.
They must be in the ocean.' Mutlaka onların içinde bulundukları şeyin, derya olması lazım" diyor.
There is another similar saying. Bir başkası, bu mevzuyu ifade ederken şöyle diyor;
Since it is a similar expression, I have recalled this: benzer bir laf olması itibarıyla, bu onu çağrıştırdı:
'You speak of loving God while you disobey Him; "Allah'a isyan ediyor, sonra da muhabbet izharında bulunuyor, seviyorum diyorsun.
I swear by my life that there is nothing as strange as this.
If you were true in your love, you would obey Him; Eğer muhabbetinde sâdık olsaydın, O'na itaat ederdin;
for a lover obeys the one they love.' çünkü seven sevdiğine itaat eder."
You disobey God while you speak of affection towards him. Allah'a isyan ediyorsun, sonra da kalkıp Allah muhabbetinden bahsediyorsun.
I swear on my life. Hayatıma yemin olsun ki.
I put my life on the line.
If you were righteous in loving God, you would obey Him. Allah'a muhabbetinde eğer doğru olsan, sen, O'na (celle celâluhu) itaat edersin.
Because the lover is devoted to the one they love, smitten by them. Zira seven, sevdiğine dilbestedir, gönlünü ona kaptırmıştır.
They constantly evaluate that affection; always moving with that love; their heart matches the rhythm of that love. Gözünü açar-kapar, hep o sevgiyi mütalaa eder; kıpırdar, hep o sevgi ile kıpırdar; kalbi, o sevginin ritmine uyar.
When their heart is beating, not in its natural state, it beats like the heart of the late Imam of Alvar.
As if to say, 'There is no deity but God' with every beat. Adeta her atışında "La ilahe illallah" der, kalbi sürekli böyle atar.
Even the doctor will say, 'Can you calm down so I can listen to your real heartbeat'. Hekim dinlerken bile, "Hazret, heyecanından biraz vazgeç ki kalbinin gerçek ritmini alabileyim" der.
If you are true in your love, you will obey Him. Muhabbetinde doğru isen, O'na itaat edersin.
Because the lover is devoted to the one they love, smitten by them. Zira seven, sevdiğine dilbestedir, gönlünü ona kaptırmıştır.
As you see, people on that path approach matters with the same attitude.
'You expect salvation yet you are not walking on that path, ships do not float on the ground.' "Sen, necât umuyorsun fakat onun yolunda değilsin, öyle kuru zeminde, gemi yüzmez."
The respected sage Bediüzzaman says: Bunu da Hazreti Pîr kullanıyor:
'Ships do not float in respect to the longing, ambition or the desire of the carnal soul.' "Nefislerin arzu, iştiyak ve isteğine göre gemiler yüzmezler."
The purpose of the ship must be determined. Geminin hedefinin belli olması lazım.
The destination must be determined. Nereye gideceğinin belli olması lazım.
There must be a compass. Pusulası olması lazım.
There must be a rudder, a captain. Dümeni olması lazım. kaptanı olması lazım.
Now, with all due respect, Şimdi rica ederim
considering global community or the community of Islam, are their course and rudder set on a path? -hey'et-i ictimâiye-i insaniye veya hey'et-i ictimâiye-i İslamiye filan diyeyim- bunların içinde bulundukları geminin dümeni belli mi?
Does it have a rudder? Dümeni var mı?
Is there a captain at the helm? Dümende kaptanı var mı?
Do they have serious goals? Çok ciddî bir hedefleri var mı?
Can they sincerely say, 'We are on the path to God?' Yani, "Allah'a doğru yürüyoruz" diyebiliyorlar mı, içten, gönülden?
Can they say, 'We've shut ourselves off from anything other than Him. We don't see anything but Him,' wherever they are? Neredeyse, "O'nun dışındaki her şeye karşı kapamışız, gözümüz O'ndan başka bir şey görmüyor" diyebiliyorlar mı?
Like the respected Muhyiddin ibn Arabi, like Suhrawardi the Murdered Master; and others, such as Ismail Haqqi Bursawi.
They completely crossed themselves out. They said that there is no 'I.' Onlar, tamamen kendileri üzerine bir çarpı işareti çekerek, "Ben" yok demişler.
'You do not reveal Yourself when my presence is apparent. "Sen, tecelli eylemezsin; perdede ben var iken
My non-existence is the condition for the manifestation of Your existence. Şart-ı izhâr-ı vücudundur, adîm olmak, bana."
If you continue to say 'I, I,' God will not unveil Himself there. Sen hâlâ "Ben, ben" diyorsan, şayet o perdede sen var isen, Allah tecelli eylemez orada.
You need to remove yourself from yourself; to be rid of that dichotomy; in regards to feelings, the heart, and matters of sensation.
Do not convict yourself of such nonexistence in terms of thoughts and feelings. Kendini öyle ademe mahkum etme, duygu ve düşünce itibarıyla.
It can be said that 'This must be the level so that He may unveil Himself.' Sanki "Tâ böyle olmalı ki O tecelli eylesin" denebilir.
Look, these are all different observations but they all draw attention to the same point. Bakın, farklı farklı mülahazalar fakat bunların hemen hepsi aynı noktaya parmak basıyor.
Abu'l-Atahiya said this. O Ebu'l Atâhiye böyle demiş:
May God grant us his intercession. Allah, şefaatine mazhar eylesin.
Another person says, 'You rebel against God, then enter His presence of affection and say that you love Him.'
Bediüzzaman, the spokesman of our age, used the phrase: Çağın Sözcüsü de şu sözü kullanmış:
A ship cannot sail relying on the caprice and desires of the carnal soul. Nefislerin hevâ ve heveslerine göre gemiler yürümezler.
The sea will desire something, the sailor something, the rudder something. Bir kere deniz ister, bir kere rota ister, bir kere dümen ister, bir kere kaptan ister.
The Islamic world is deprived from all of this; İslam dünyası, bunların hepsinden mahrum;
their ship is off route, its destination is not clear. gemi rotasız, hedefi belli değil.
A ships route without a destination is like the bottom of the ocean. Hedefi belli olmayan geminin rotası, denizin dibidir.
For this reason, you see them at the moment, Onun için, hal-i hazırda görüyorsunuz,
while they are saying, 'revival, revival, revival,' they are essentially singing songs of 'death, death, death'. "İhya, ihya, ihya" (diriliş/dirilme) derken, "imâte" (ölüm/öldürme) türküleri söylüyorlar.
As they say, 'reconstruction, reconstruction, reconstruction' they are actually whispering melodies of devastation. "İmar, imar, imar" derken, hep "tahribat" nağmeleri mırıldanıyorlar.
When they say, 'We did it, we did it, we did it', they are bringing an auspicious community to collapse. "Yaptık, yaptık, yaptık" derken, mübarek bir toplumu mâil-i inhidam hâle getiriyorlar.
Lies... Yalan.
Because the Messenger of God did not approve of making oaths in the Name of God, I will not say it, but I can swear that: Evet, Allah Rasûlü (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) yeminden men ettiğinden, onu tasvip etmediğinden dolayı, "Vallahi, billahi, tallahi" denecek yerde, demedim bunu, demiyorum, dememiş kabul edin beni; fakat yemin bile edebilirim:
There is no captain, no rudder, compass, destination, nothing is known. Kaptan yok, dümen yok, pusula yok, hedef belli değil; belli değil, belli değil.
'Our day was reduced to a period of time "Bir vakte erdi ki bizim günümüz.
The courageous and chivalrous are unknown. Yiğit belli değil, mert belli değil.
Everyone seeks a remedy for their wounds Herkes yarasına derman arıyor.
The remedy is unknown, the problem unknown' Deva belli değil, dert belli değil."
This verse is from Ruhsati. Ruhsatî'nin.
'Everyone seeks a remedy for their wounds "Herkes yarasına derman arıyor.
Deva belli değil, dert belli değil."
From the words Abu'l-Atahiyya mentioned earlier, a question like this comes to mind: Ebu'l Atâhiye'nin sözünden hareketle, böyle bir soru akla gelebilir.
Using the verse: 'Guide us to the Straight Path' the respected sage Bediüzzaman points of three kinds of guidance that are mentioned here, from what I remember. Hazreti Pîr, "Allah'ım. Bizi, sırât-ı müstakîme hidayet eyle" ayetiyle talep ettiğimiz "hidayet" konusunda başlıca üç tane tevcihten bahsediyor, zannediyorum, aklımda kaldığına göre.
The first is finding true guidance and faith. Birincisi, esasen başta hidayete erme.
The second is seeing guidance as part of one's nature, and to deepen one's nature with it; so as to see a separation from it akin to death. İkincisi, o hidayeti -öyle diyeyim ben- tabiatına mal etme, tabiatının bir derinliği haline getirme; ondan kopmayı ölüm görme, hafizanallah.
Another one will, in a way, transform it into an observatory and essentially let go of oneself to the pleasures of observing.
From degree to degree... Derece, derece.
We repeat our desire for guidance 40 times a day. Biz, bu hidayet talebini günde kırk defa tekrar ediyoruz.
If we combine voluntary Prayers with the recommended Prayers, for example, if we observe four units of Pre-Noon Prayer, it makes 44; Zevâidi ile beraber nafile namazları da edâ ediyorsak, inşallah öyle edâ ediliyordur, mesela, dört rekât kuşluk (ve/veya Duha) namazı kılıyorsak, kırk dört yapar;
If we observe four or eight units, or at least two units of the Night Vigil, it makes 48. dört veya sekiz rekât -Hazreti Pîr "iki" de demek suretiyle "lâekall"ini söylüyor.- Teheccüd de kılıyorsak, yapar kırk sekiz;
If we observe the Forenoon Prayer, it makes 50. İşrâk namazı da kılarsak, yapar elli;
if we observe six units of the Prayer of the Repentant, it makes 56. altı rekât Evvâbîn de kılarsak, yapar elli altı.
So many times we say, 'My Lord! Bu kadar defa "Allah'ım.
May You guide us to the Straight Path.' Bizi, sırât-ı müstakîme hidayet eyle" diyoruz.
We either say it directly, or we participate in Prayer behind the Imam and inside us we say, 'My Lord!
May You guide us to the Straight Path.' 'Amen'. Bizi, sırât-ı müstakîme hidayet eyle" "Âmin" diyoruz.
And in the end, reward and remuneration expressions complete our prayer.
Indeed, what is the Straight Path? Evet, Nedir o Sırât-ı Müstakîm?
It is the path of those whom You showered with Your blessings, favoured with Your beneficence, and lit up their paths. Senin nimet ile perverde eylediğin, inayetin ile serfirâz kıldığın, Sana gelen yolları kendilerine açtığın, yollarına ışıklar saçtığın o insanların yolları.
Who are they? Kim onlar?
In another place it is said: Başka bir yerde diyor:
'Whoever obeys God and His Messenger, those are in the company of those whom God has favoured—the Prophets, and the truthful ones, and the witnesses, and the righteous ones. "Allah'a ve Rasûlüne itaat eden kimseler, işte onlar, Allah'ın nimetlerine mazhar kıldığı nebîler, sıddîklar, şehitler, sâlih kişilerle beraber olacaklardır.
How excellent they are for companions!' (An-Nisa, 4:69). Ne güzel arkadaşlardır bunlar" (Nisâ, 4:69).
The Prophets... Nebiler.
Those who are like Abu Bakr... Hazreti Ebu Bekirler.
Those who are of his character Onun karakterinde olan insanlar.
Those who suffered and cried out in loyalty. Sadakatle inleyen insanlar ve şehitler.
Those who died on the path of God. Allah yolunda şehit olanlar.
The path of the fortunate ones who after they pledged their belief, nurtured their belief with sincere deeds.
If belief isn't nurtured with sincere deeds, it is bound to shrivel up.
To keep it alive, you must nurture it with sincere Prayer, sincere fast, sincere Pilgrimage, and exalted morals.
Without these, we will lose faith, May God protect us! Bunlar olmazsa, onu öldürmüş olursunuz, hafizanallah.
The exalted virtues of Islam and good moral conduct. Ahlâk-ı âliye-i İslâmiye, huluk-i hasen.
God describes our noble Prophet as follows: Efendimiz (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) için Cenâb-ı Allah buyuruyor:
'You are surely of a sublime character, and do act by a sublime pattern of conduct' (Kalam, 68.4). "Şüphesiz Sen, yüksek bir ahlak üzerinesin" (Kalem, 68:4).
He states, 'You have a sublime character and you act by a sublime pattern of conduct.' "Sen, çok yüksek, yüce, büyük bir ahlak üzerinesin" diyor.
According to the narration from her nephew, her sister's son Urwa, our mother Aisha responds to people about the conduct of our Prophet: Âişe validemiz de kendisine ahlak-ı Rasûlullah'ı sorana karşı -yeğeni, ablasının oğlu Urve rivayet ediyor- buyuruyor ki:
'His conduct was the Qur'an' "O'nun ahlakı, Kur'an idi."
He embodied the Qur'an meticulously. Kur'an'ı yaşıyor, milimi milimine.
The point is not to produce a musical performance or become the 'Master of vocal cords' as expressed by Nureddin Topçu; the point is to try to understand the Qur'an as a whole as if looking at a map and engage with it in life. Esas olan, onu, camilerde ses sanatkârlığı şeklinde -Nureddin Topçu merhum, "gırtlak ağaları" derdi- "gırtlak ağalığı" şeklinde tilavet etmek değildir; onu hayata hayat kılmak, bir haritada bütününü görüyor gibi onu anlamaya çalışmaktır esas.
'O God, please help us to understand Qur'an the way it is ought to be understood; and understand the phrases of our noble Prophet the way they ought to be understood. "Allah'ım Kur'ân'ı anlaşılması gerektiği gibi anlamaya bizi muvaffak kıl; Peygamber Efendimiz'in mübarek söz, beyan ve takrirlerini anlaşılması lazım geldiği gibi anlamamızı lütfet.
O God, please grant us with understanding and comprehension of the Qur'an'. Allah'ım, Kur'an anlayışı; Allah'ım, Kur'an idraki ihsan buyur."
One should constantly say, 'O God! Sürekli, oturup-kalkıp, "Allah'ım.
The Qur'an is your message which you transmitted to us through our noble Prophet. Kur'an, Senin bize Efendimiz vasıtasıyla mesajındır.
It was revealed to the Prophet, but we accept as if it was revealed to us' and be busy with this phrase.
To perceive that it was revealed to me. Ben, bana inmiş gibi görüyorum.
From where to where? Nereden nereye kadar?
From the very first to the last verse of the Qur'an.
Sometimes, based on my reasoning, imagination and vision; especially when I am deep into thoughts and looking from the perspective of others I see that the Qur'an is specifically talking about me. Değişik ruh hâletlerim itibarıyla; taakkullerim, tasavvurlarım, tahayyüllerim itibarıyla; bazen içine girdiğim düşünceler ve bazen başkalarının mülahazaları zaviyesinden o koridorlarda dolaştığım zaman, bakıyorum ki hep benden bahsediyor Kur'an-ı Kerim:
'Oh God! "Allah Allah.
God is always talking about me.' Allah, hep benden bahsediyor."
Let me mention something else here as an aside. Burada yine antrparantez bir şey diyeyim:
Muhammad Iqbal reports... Doktor İkbal diyor ki.
He was like our famous poet Akif. Bizim Akif'imiz gibi birisiydi o.
He was an expert in jurisprudence and its methodology. Aynı zamanda Fıkha da vakıf, Usul-i Fıkha da vakıf.
Although he lived in London for ten years, he did not abandon the Night Vigil even once.
You may have read; Book of Eternity (Javid Nama), The Secrets of the Self, The Secrets of the Selflessness; these are his works. Okumuşsunuzdur belki, oğlunun adına izafeten yaptığı "Câvidnâme"si var; "Esrâr-ı Hôdî, Rumuzî bi-hôdî - Benlik Kazanma Sırları, Benlikten Vazgeçme Sırları" var.
He has a work called Message from the East. Peyâm-ı Maşrık adlı eseri var.
All those works have been translated to other languages. Bunların hepsi tercüme edildi;
Annemarie Schimmel translated Javid Nama into Turkish at the end of the fifties, I think. Câvidnâme'yi Annemarie Schimmel tercüme etmişti, ellili yılların sonunda, zannediyorum.
I read those books from those translations. Kıtmîr de zaten o tercümelerden okumuştum bunları.
He has same the value as Akif has. Sizin Akif'inizin yerine koyabilirsiniz.
When Akif read Iqbal's works, he said, 'He thinks like me.' Ve nitekim Akif, onun eserlerine muttali olunca -çünkü Akif'ten evvel- "Aynen benim gibi düşünüyor" diyor.
Muhammad Iqbal says: Doktor İkbal diyor ki:
'I was always reciting the Qur'an. "Ben hep Kur'an'ı tilavet ediyordum.
My father was telling me to read it', such a father may have such a son. Bana babam diyordu ki" demek ki, öyle babadan işte öyle evlâd olur.
Such a father... Öyle baba.
May God make fathers and sons like them. Cenâb-ı Hak, babaları öyle baba eylesin; evlatları da öyle evlâd eylesin.
At first a child imitates their father, and through imitation they become like their father.
By following a father's path, a child can reach the truth of the truths.
May God keep us on that path. Allah, o çizgide yol alanlardan eylesin.
'My father would always say: "Babam, durmadan bana diyordu ki:
"Read the Qur'an my son." 'Oğlum, Kur'an oku.'
So I was always reciting.' Ben de hep okuyorum, hiç elimden bırakmıyorum Kur'an-ı Kerim'i."
When you take a look at his works, you will see meanings and words from the Qur'an. Zaten eserlerine baktığınız zaman, Kur'an'dan takattur eden şeyler olduğunu görürsünüz, onun sözlerinde onu görürsünüz.
You know of his sermon after the victory of the Ottoman army in Tripoli. Hani Trablusgarp'ta Osmanlı ordusu zaferyâb olduğu zaman, hutbe îrâd ediyor.
People gathered to listen to him. Bütün halk toplanmış başında, onu dinliyorlar orada.
'Now I see myself in the presence of the Messenger of God.' "Ben, şu anda kendimi Rasûlullah'ın huzurunda görüyorum.
He asks me: Bana diyor ki:
'Iqbal, what present did you bring for me?' 'Doktor İkbal, Bana ne hediye getirdin?'
And I say: Ben de diyorum ki:
I present to you a cup of blood from Trablusgarp'ta savaşan Osmanlı ordusu.
the Ottoman army that fought at Tripoli. Sana bir bardak içinde onların kanlarını takdim ediyorum."
When we say Iqbal, we should consider him from this point of view, this perspective. İkbal derken, ufku açısından, böyle bakmak lazım; o, böyle bakıyordu.
His father says: Baba:
'My son, read the Qur'an.' "Oğlum, Kur'an'ı oku" diyor.
Iqbal says: 'Dad, but I always read the Qur'an'. İkbal, "Baba, ben hep Kur'an okuyorum, hiç elimden bırakmıyorum" deyince,
The father says: 'Do not read it like it was revealed to the beloved Prophet, read it like it was revealed to you.' babası, "Oğlum, Hazreti Muhammed'e inmiş gibi değil, sana hitap ediyor gibi Kur'an oku" diyor.
Like: 'All praise belongs to God, Lord of the Worlds', God said this to me. Allah, bana böyle dedi.
'The Merciful, the Compassionate', God said this to me. اَلرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ dedi, "Rahman, Rahîm" olduğunu söyledi bana.
'The Master of the Day of Judgement', God said this to me.
The Master of the Day of Judgement. Din gününün Sahibi.
My feet must shake; my heart must quiver, that day that I will be held to account at the Great Gathering. Ayaklarım titremeli, kalbim titremeli benim; hesap vereceğim Mahşerde.
Yes, 'My God!' Evet, "Allah'ım.
'Guide us to the Straight Path', we should repeat the whole supplication. Bizi, sırât-ı müstakîme hidayet eyle" duasını sonuna kadar demek lazım:
'My God!' "Allah'ım.
'Guide us to the Straight Path' Bizi, sırât-ı müstakîme hidayet eyle.
The path of those whom You have favoured, Nimet ve lütfuna nail ettiklerinin yoluna ilet.
And not of those who have gone astray.' Gazaba uğrayanların ve sapkınlarınkine değil."
The factors that complement the request of 'The Straight Path' are listed in the subsequent words. O "Sırât-ı Müstakîm" talebini tamamlayıcı faktörler, sonra gelen ifadeler.
The Path of the Prophets, the sincere and truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous ones. Peygamberlerin, sıddîkların, şehitlerin, sâlihlerin yolu.
It is impossible to be a Prophet. "Peygamber" olmak, mümkün değil.
To be of the sincere and truthful in the true sense of the word like the father 'The Great Truthful One' Abu Bakr, and the daughter Aisha has also become a thing of the past. Kâmil manada "sıddîk" olmak da geçmişte kalmış; baba "Sıddîk-i Ekber", kız "Sıddîka-i Kübrâ".
We love them and I cannot wait for the day when I will place my head under their feet. Seviyoruz onları ve başımı ayaklarının altına koyacağın günü cân u gönülden intizar ediyorum.
Will Allah grant me this? Allah nasip eder mi?
I want Abu Bakr to step on my dirty head as soon as I get to meet him. Bir an evvel, oraya gittiğimde, Ebu Bekir, kirli başıma bassın.
My mother Aisha, the most beautiful of the beautiful, may she say to me, 'You are among my children', and step on my head too.
This is what we desire. Bunu diyoruz/diliyoruz.
It is thus very difficult to be truly sincere and truthful. O (sıddîk olmak) da biraz zor.
But we can be martyrs, like many today. Ama "şehit" olunabilir günümüzde; çokları gibi.
We can perform righteous deeds, and ensure our faith does not dry up and perish. Fakat "sâlih amel" yapılır ve böylece iman kurumamış olur.
Belief without deeds is destined to dry. Amelsiz iman, kurumaya mahkûmdur.
The opposite also applies. Sonra bir de onun tam tersi var.
O my Lord! Aman yâ Rabbi.
We will believe, we will perform good deeds, but we will still be among those to taste Your wrath; İman ederiz, sâlih amel yaparız fakat gazabına uğramış olanlardan oluruz;
we will be among those that stray from Your path. "Dâllîn"den, sapıp gitmiş olanlardan oluruz.
May God protect us! Hafizanallah.
Yes, the reality is that we need to walk along the path that Almighty God has set out for us as the path to follow. Evet, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın yol-yöntem olarak tayin buyurduğu, bize yol olarak "Bu yolda yürüyün" dediği yolda yürümek esastır; bize o düşer.
And one should realise, that not walking along the path set out by God, is like sailing a ship on the road. Ve bilmek lazım ki, esasen, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın tayin buyurduğu yolda yürümemek, karada gemi yüzdürmek demektir.
From this perspective, the criteria which shows if we are sincere in our prayers is if we are exerting as much effort as we can on that path.
Exerting effort to the extent that we collapse.
Necip Fazıl says, 'exerting effort to the extent that you vomit your brain out of your nose'. Üstad Necip Fazıl'ın ifadesiyle, "öz beynimizi burnumuzdan kusarcasına" onu yaşamaya çalışmak lazım.
We must remain steadfast in spite of the blows that come from tyrants, traitors and the envious.
They will perform their tyranny. Onlar, zalimliklerini yapacaklar.
The Qur'an states: Kur'an diyor:
'Everyone acts according to their own character.' "Herkes, karakterinin gereğini sergiler."
When it comes to you, since you are true believers, you should act according to your character. Sana gelince, sen, madem hakiki mü'minsin, karakterinin gereğini sergileyeceksin.
Rocks will be placed on your chest like they were on Bilal al-Habashi. Göğsüne Bilal-i Habeşî'ninki gibi taşlar konacak.
You will be forced down with your back on hot sand, and for hours those rocks will not be removed. O beyin kaynatan kumda, sıcak kumda sırtüstü yatırılacaksın ve saatlerce kaldırılmayacak o taşlar.
You will be forced, 'Turn from your religion' they will say; 'Say Al-Lat. Zorlanacaksın, "Dön dininden" denecek sana; "Lât, de.
Say, Manat. Menât, de.
Say, Al-Uzza. Uzzâ, de.
Say, the world; say, villa; say, fleet; say, power; say, applause; say, appreciation.' Dünya, de; villa, de; filo, de; iktidar, de; alkış, de; takdir, de."
The respected Bilal, in the face of all these said, 'God is The Unique One, God is The Unique One'. Hazreti Bilal, bütün bu isteklere karşılık, "Ehad, Ehad" diyor.
'The Unique One, The Unique One... "Ehad, Ehad.
God is One; God is One; God is One' he said. Allah, bir; Allah, bir; Allah, bir" diyor.
This is the period where only a handful of verses had been revealed. Birkaç ayetin nazil olduğu dönemler bunlar.
Ammar's parents, Yasir and Sumayya, were killed right in front of their son's eyes. Yâsir ve Sümeyye, Ammar'ın annesi ve babası; oğullarının gözünün önünde öldürülüyor.
It seems to me that they too gave their last breath with 'God is The Unique One, God is The Unique One'. Zannediyorum onlar da "Ehad, Ehad" diyerek son nefeslerini veriyorlar.
Their son cannot bare the pain, he says some things half-heartedly and gets out of the situation he is in. Evlat, dayanamayarak, yarım yamalak, meâriz nev'inden bir şeyler söylüyor ve sıyrılıyor işin içinden.
However, afterwards he runs to the Messenger of God as though he has been hit on the head.
Look at the temperament of the Muslims when only a few verses had been revealed. Birkaç ayetin nâzil olduğu dönemdeki Müslümanların kıvamına bakın.
The temperament of the Muslims when only a few verses were revealed. Birkaç ayetin nazil olduğu dönemde, Müslüman kıvamı.
They were devout monuments which would not collapse. Yıkılmayan âbideler gibi, esasen.
'O Messenger of God! "Ya Rasûlallah.
They oppressed me; my mother and father were killed right in front of my own eyes. Çok sıkıştırdılar; annem öldü, babam öldü orada, gözümün önünde.
They were going to do the same to me.' Bana da aynı şeyi yapacaklardı."
Maybe this was his observation. Belki de mülahazası şu idi.
This is my interpretation, accept this as my interpretation.
'I chose to live, to stay on the path of being next to you, for the sake of being with you, to be part of your companions. "Senin yanında bulunma hatırına, hep yanında olma, sahabîn olma mülahazası ile ben diri kalma yolunu tercih ettim."
Fundamentally religion allows this to be permissible. Esasen din de o kadarına cevaz veriyor.
The Prophet once appreciated another companion who acted in a similar fashion when threatened by Musaylimah. Müseyleme karşısında öyle diyen birisini de Efendimiz, takdir buyurmuştu.
The Messenger of God stated: Efendimiz (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) buyurdular ki:
'If they continue to inflict the same tyranny and oppression through their manners and attitude, you continue to say the same thing and wiggle your way out. "Onlar, aynı cebbarlığa, aynı hodfüruşluğa, aynı zulme, aynı müteessifâne tavırlara ve davranışlara başvururlar ise, sen de aynı şeyi söyle ve sıyrıl işin içinden."
May I sacrifice all I have for you. Kurban olayım.
'Simplify, don't make it difficult; be the bearer of good tidings and fill them with happiness not hatred.' "Kolaylaştırın, zorlaştırmayın; müjdeleyici olup sevdiriniz, nefret ettirmeyiniz."
Yes, you might have a sledgehammer come down on your head; you might be whipped in prisons. Evet, balyozlar başınızdan aşağıya inebilir, zindanlarda kırbaçlanabilirsiniz.
A mother can be separated from her child. Anne, evlattan ayrılabilir.
Well this is the nature of the oppressor; they will commit these actions. Ee zalimin huyu bu, karakteri bu; yapar bunu.
No matter what they tell themselves; they can call themselves 'Archangel Gabriel' or 'Archangel Michael' or 'Archangel Israfil'; however there is no doubt that they are Satan's minions. Kendine ne derse desin; kendine "Cebrail" diyebilir, "Mikail" diyebilir, "İsrafil" diyebilir; fakat şeytanın teki olduğunda şüphe yok.
They can say this; they are reflecting their own character. Diyebilir; o, karakterinin gereğini sergiliyor.
'There is no deity but God. "La ilahe illallah.
And Muhammad is the Messenger of God' is what a believer must say as an obligation to reflect their own character. Muhammedu'r-Rasûlallah" diyen mü'min de kendi karakterinin gereğini sergileme mecburiyetindedir.
Like Bilal al-Habashi, like Ammar, like Sumayya and like Yasir. Bilâl-i Habeşî gibi, Ammâr gibi, Sümeyye gibi, Yâsir gibi.
Being steadfast in that matter until death. Ölümüne o mevzuda sâbit-kadem olma, sâbit-kadem.
In fact being ready and prepared to move on to the Hereafter without wait. Hatta bir an evvel öbür tarafa kanatlanıp uçma adına hazır bulunma.
Like the example of Abdullah ibn Jahsh... Abdullah İbn Cahş gibi.
He says: O diyor ki:
'My God! "Allah'ım.
Let my arm be sacrificed for Your Most Beloved in battle; let another sword blow take my other arm; let another blow take my leg. Senin Habibin yolunda bir kılıç darbesi bir kolumu götürsün; öbür kılıç darbesi başka bir kolumu götürsün; başka bir kılıç, bacağımı götürsün.
And let me arrive to Your presence in a state of cuts and bruises from the blows of the swords.
And you should say to me, 'Abdullah what is this state you are in?'
So that I will respond: Ben de diyeyim ki:
'O my Lord! Yâ Rabbi.
I was put in to this state for being on the path of Your Most Beloved.' Senin Habibin önünde/yolunda beni bu hâle getirdiler."
That is what happens at Uhud. Ve öyle oluyor, Uhud'da öyle oluyor.
This was mentioned in a sermon recently. Geçenlerde bir hutbede de îrâd edildi.
Mus'ab ibn Umayr; the apple of his mother's eye. Mus'ab İbn Umeyr; annenin gözbebeği.
His mother begs him: Anne yalvarıyor:
'Do not go on that path.' "Oğlum, gitme o yoldan."
He says: O diyor ki:
'Mother, "Anne.
I cannot disrespect you but this is the path that I am on.' Senin hatırını kırmam ama benim yolum o yol."
This is when there were only one or two verses revealed; he is about 20 years old.
When he walks on the streets, window blinds are opened so that everyone can have a peek at this handsome, stylish young man.
However great his capacity was, his ideals were just as great, the noble Messenger sent him to Medina to invite others to Islam despite there being tens of others who could do so.
And he was so successful that in one year, when he returns to Aqaba, he returns with seventy people, men, women and children who have accepted Islam.
Despite taking blows to his head, he does not have any doubts about his mission. Kılıçlar, başında kavisler çizdiği halde, zerre kadar sarsıntı yaşamıyor.
Sa'd ibn Muadh approaches him with anger. Sa'd İbn Muaz öfke ile geliyor yanına.
He says to him, 'you can do whatever you want to me but I beg you please listen to my message; if you do not like it, you can have my head.'
And he sits beside him with such sincerity, and every word he speaks inspires this great companion to the Divine cause, and he willingly embraces this way.
But what happens to Mus'ab?
Without even taking a single step into the pleasures of this life, he became a martyr in front of the Messenger of God during the third year of the noble migration.
Mus'ab says, 'At one stage He sent me to Medina as a representative, I meant something to Him; and so what befalls me now is to be a shield in front of Him.' "Bir dönemde, O beni buraya/Medine'ye gönderdi, bir dönemde ben O'nun nazarında bir şey ifade ediyordum; dolayısıyla bana şimdi, O'nun önünde kalkan olmak düşer" diyor.
Consequently he shielded the Messenger of God; first he lost his arm, then the other, then he extended his own neck, fearing only: 'What if it strikes God's Messenger?' Dolayısıyla Allah Rasûlü'nün önünde bir kalkan vazifesi görüyor; kol gidiyor, öbür kol gidiyor, sonra kalkan bir kılıç karşısında, "Efendimiz'e dokunur?" diye, boynunu uzatıyor.
I heard the rest from a sermon, I did not see it in a book, he rested his face on the soil and with his holy lips said: Sonra -bir hoca efendiden dinledim, kitapta görmedim- yüzünü yere kapatıyor, mübarek dudaklarından şunlar dökülüyor:
'My Lord. "Yâ Rabbi.
If I enter your presence in my current state you will ask me 'Why did you not sacrifice your head in front of the noble Messenger?', and he passed away wishing he could have done even more. Senin huzuruna bu halim ile gelirsem, bana 'Allah Rasûlü'nün önünde niye kelleni vermeden geldin?' dersin" diyor, hicâb ile öbür tarafa yürüyor.
This is how the true believers were. Hakiki mü'minler böyle idi.
You are the travellers of this path. Sizler, bu yolun yolcularısınız.
Not 'Get up and fight!' "Kalkın kavga edin" değil.
For 'The sword has been sheathed.' "Maddî kılıç, kınına girmiştir."
What we really need is the invaluable principles of the Qur'an. Kur'an'ın elmas düsturları.
The tongue of compassion that conquers hearts. Şefkatin gönülleri fetheden dili.
Essentially, we need hearts that are like roses. Esasen, kalblerin gül gibi olması.
For the words that leave the tongue and reach the ears to be beautiful. Dilden-dudaktan dökülen kelimelerin ıtır olması.
These are the things we need to be equipped with. Kullanacağınız malzemeler, bunlar.
It is with these tools that you will travel all over the world and save people from darkness, and guide them to the light.
You will guide those who have lost themselves in their own shadow to the sunlight, 'You will guide them towards the sun of suns.' Gölgesine takılmış insanları, Güneş'e yönlendireceksiniz, "Şemsü's-Şümûs'a doğru yönlendireceksiniz.
And of course, as this is the path of the Prophets, there will be a group of tyrants, traitors, treacherous ones who don't know God or His Messengers, yet never stop speaking of Him who will relentlessly torment, punish, and torture you in unimaginable ways.
I think it is worth it; it depends on what you are requesting. Değer bence; peylediğiniz şey itibarıyla değer.
What are you requesting? Neyi peyliyorsunuz?
You are requesting Paradise, whose single moment is greater than thousands of years of blissful life in this world. Dünyanın binlerce sene mesûdâne hayatı, bir dakikalık hayatına mukabil gelmeyen Cennet'i peyliyorsunuz.
You are requesting a moment of the vision of Divine Beauty of Almighty God, who is Beauty and Perfection, which is greater than thousands of years in Paradise, you are also requesting His pleasure and gratification. Cennet'in binlerce sene hayatı da bir dakika rü'yet-i Cemâline mukabil gelmeyen Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın Cemâl-i bâ-kemâlini talep ediyorsunuz. -Buna "peyleme" demiyorum.- Ve Rıdvan'ını talep ediyorsunuz.
You are seeking this. Buna talipsiniz.
I think whatever you give for this path, it is worth it. Bence bu uğurda ne verirseniz, değer.
The things you sacrifice, it is for this path, with God's permission and grace.
With God's permission and grace, when we leave to the other side, we will see these things. İnşaallah, öbür tarafa gittiğimiz zaman, göreceğiz bunları.
When you are seeing these things, for God's sake, do not forget me, who has lived his life stumbling on this path. Ha siz bunları görürken, ne olur, Allah aşkına, düşe-kalka yürüyen, hayatını düşe-kalka yürüme içinde götürmüş Kıtmîr'i de unutmayın.
If Almighty God asks, say, 'He was one of us as well'. Cenâb-ı Hak size sorarsa, "Bu da bizim içimizde idi" deyin.
