Oppression, Pandemic and Ramadan

Oppression, Pandemic and Ramadan

As you already know, Ramadan is the blessed month in which the Qur'an was revealed. Ramazan-ı şerîf, bilindiği gibi, Kur'an-ı Kerim'in nâzil olduğu ay olması itibarıyla mübarektir.
Just as it can be said that the birth of the Glorious Prophet can mean the 'rebirth' of humanity, the month of Ramadan has the same significance for Muslims.
From this point, if humankind turns towards God with the Qur'an, then the month in which it was revealed is perhaps the most blessed period in the year. Bu açıdan da Kur'an-ı Kerim ile -esas- insanların insan olması söz konusu ise, insanlığın Cenâb-ı Hakk'a yönelmesi Kur'an sayesinde oluyor ise, onun nazil olduğu ay Ramazan-ı Şerif, belki en kutlu bir zaman dilimi demektir.
Perhaps every night of this month is like a Night of Power but God has assigned that night to one night only.
Right now we are really close; it begins in a few days.
Perhaps its shadow is cast over our heads and we begin to feel it, but in the face of current events, it might not be something we will wholeheartedly feel.
Maybe we should try to revitalise these emotions within us. Belki o duyguyu şimdi tetiklemek lazım insanlarda.
As though there was no pandemic in the world. Adeta hiçbir virüs insanlığa musallat olmamış, hiçbir veba ve tâûn insanlığa musallat olmamış.
And everything else is just fine. Her şey yerli yerinde, aynı zamanda hadiseler süt-liman.
This should be how we approach this Ramadan; we will fast, observe the Tarawih Prayer and give charity. Dolayısıyla biz böyle bir hava içinde Ramazan-ı Şerifi karşılıyoruz; inşaallah orucunu tutacağız, terâvihini kılacağız, sadaka-ı fıtrını vereceğiz. ".
Just as the verse informs us: 'To Him ascends only the pure word (as the source of might and glory), and the good, righteous action (accompanying it) raises it' (Al- Fatir 35:10). All good deeds will ascend to God and will be commended based on their value. (Fâtır, 35:10). buyurulduğu gibi, o güzel işler, bir de amel-i sâlih ile esasen Cenâb-ı Hakk'a yükselecek, nezd-i Ulûhiyette yerini alacak, kıymetine göre takdir görecek.
This is how it will be. Öyle olacak.
Without letting the current problems around the world bring you down. Hadiseleri nazar-ı itibara almayarak esasen.
But there is human nature. Fakat muktezâ-ı beşeriyet.
I have repeated Izzet Molla's verses many times: İzzet Molla'nın sözünü çok tekrar etmişimdir:
'I will not tire of torment, my dear, "Ben usanmam -gözümün nuru- cefâdan ama
But we, at a point get tired, as the body is human.' Ne de olmasa cefâdan usanır, candır bu!"
Now there are tribulations everywhere and it throws everyone off-course. Şimdi bela başınızda sürekli böyle esiyor ve savuruyor sizi, her birinizi bir yere saçıyor.
As a result, every day there is a new cry arising.  Dolayısıyla her gün bir yerde bir feryad yükseliyor; bir âhuzâr, bir inilti yükseliyor.
In the face of such events, it may be difficult to feel the bliss particular to the month of Ramadan or experience it with the same eagerness. Böyle bir tablo karşısında insanın, bütün bunları duymadan/hissetmeden Ramazan'ı kendine mahsus neşvesiyle duyması, onu her zaman yaşadığı o iştiyak ile yaşaması zor olabilir.
I believe it has been mentioned on other occasions, 'The Horizon of Ramadan'. Değişik vesileler ile zannediyorum ifade edilmiştir; "Ramazan ufku" esasen.
Evaluating our surroundings during Ramadan. Ramazan'da bizim çevremizi okumamız.
Evaluating ourselves during Ramadan. Ramazan'da kendimizi okumamız.
Observing the things and events around us during Ramadan. Ramazan'da eşya ve hadiselere bakmamız.
Seeing and planning for the future during Ramadan. Ramazan'da önümüzü görmemiz.
Evaluating our past together with the present during the month of Ramadan, etc. Ramazan ile geriye bakmamız, geriyi bugün ile beraber mütalaa etmemiz, filan.
Experiencing it just as if it were a celebration. Onu böyle bir bayram neşvesi içinde duyma.
We may say, 'Now is not the time!' but clenching our teeth during these critical times, being patient, observing Ramadan in a profundity exclusive to it.  "Herhalde şimdi olmaz!" falan diyoruz; fakat işte dişini sıkıp bence bu kadar kritik durumlara rağmen, Ramazan'ı yine kendine has o derinliği ile duymak, çok önemlidir.
Maybe realising our inability, indigence and weakness, the thought that our sins shown to us, turning towards the Almighty God with the idea of cleansing our sins, maybe these thoughts can arise.  Belki aczimizi, fakrımızı, zaafımızı duyarak, aynı zamanda hatalarımızın/günahlarımızın yüzümüze çarpılması karşısında daha derinden Cenâb-ı Hakk'a teveccüh ederek, bir arınma mülahazası ile, arınma fikri ile bunları duyabiliriz.
However severe the events can be, however faithless some things can be, when one clenches their teeth, he will not stumble over these and will overcome these, with God's permission and grace.
Ramadan can be experienced as 'a holy time'. Onu hakikaten "kutlu bir zaman dilimi" halinde duyabilir.
Every night, as if you are drinking from the fountain of Kawthar, at every predawn meal as if you have reached the resurrection after death, connecting with the Divine Essence, with God's permission and grace.
When one feels that, it will defer feeling negative things in a way, one will try to experience Ramadan as it should be experienced, with God's permission and grace.
From this perspective, we say: Bu açılardan diyoruz:
A Sacred Phase of Time: The Blessed Three Months Kutlu zaman dilimi.
This is why we call Ramadan, 'a time of self-observation'. Bir açıdan da Ramazan'a "kendimizi dinleme zamanı" diyoruz.
That is also a different expression and we may not be able to understand that as we should most of the time.
Listening to ourselves, in a way as if we have entered a time of seclusion; turning towards Almighty God when left hungry and thirsty.
Also 'listening to our inner-self' with that consideration is very important.
Listening to one's self, contemplating the question 'Who are you?' İnsanın kendini dinlemesi, esasen, "Nesin sen?" sorusunun cevabını düşünmesi.
God's servant. Allah'ın kulu.
You have certain responsibilities towards God, which you need to fulfil in order to unveil your true value. You will then become deeply aware of yourself, your servanthood and with that, turn to God with great reverence. Cenâb-ı Hakk'a karşı bir kısım mükellefiyetler ile muvazzafsın, bunları yerine getireceksin; gerçek kıymetin o sayede inkişaf edecek; kendini derinlemesine duyacaksın, kulluğunu derinlemesine hissedeceksin; o kulluğuna bağlı olarak Cenâb-ı Hakk'a karşı derin bir saygı hissi ile O'na teveccüh edeceksin.
Listening to one's self in such a manner, living a life of seclusion and retreat is very important in order to listen to the messages coming from beyond our world.
Indeed, if one opens the door in that direction, one can feel many amazing things that can make them fill with utmost joy, with God's permission and grace.
Given that one listens to themselves... Kendini dinlediği takdirde.
The month of Ramadan is at the same time such a period of listening to one's self. Ramazan, aynı zamanda böyle bir dinleme faslıdır.
Perhaps listening in to other dimensions at different wavelengths. Belki ötelerden gelen değişik dalga boyundaki şeyleri dinleme.
At the same time, looking at things through the lens of the Qur'an and how it was revealed, considering matters in a very different manner, positioning and considering one's self accordingly, with God's permission and grace. Aynı zamanda Kur'an adesesiyle bakıp, Kur'an merceğiyle bakıp, Kur'an'ın iniş merceğiyle bakıp hâdiseleri çok farklı görme, kendini ona göre konumlandırma, Allah'ın izni-inayetiyle, ona göre değerlendirme.
Taking certain responsibilities according to one's status before God.
Reconsidering one's place in the world. Bir yerden başka bir yere kendini koyma, alıp-koyma.
All these things could occur by virtue of Ramadan. Bütün bunlar, Ramazan sayesinde olabilecek şeylerdendir.
When one considers things with such depth, they almost reach beyond time. Böyle derinlemesine bakınca, insan, zaman üstü oluyor belki.
When one reaches beyond this time, one feels time very differently in various depths, with God's permission and grace.
One then feels time with its heavenly dimensions. Lâhutî derinlikleriyle duyuyor.
That's what we call 'time'. İşte "dehr" dediğimiz şey.
Time, in reality, is connected to God's unveiling His Divine Essence to creation. Dehr, hakikatte Zât-ı Ulûhiyete ait bir tecelli.
It is mentioned differently but I find it necessary to put it this way: Farklı ifade ediliyor da ben böyle deme lüzumunu duyuyorum:
A different way of God's unveiling His Divine Essence to creation. Zât-ı Ulûhiyete ait farklı bir tecelli.
In Ramadan, we understand time in such depth and recognise its value; acknowledging the things that we gain from it, realising that a fleeting second of time is the price for an eternal life and it is worth an eternal life. Onu öyle derinlemesine duyuyoruz; zamanı derinlemesine duyuyor, zamanın kıymetini anlıyoruz; zamanın insana kazandırdığı şeyleri duyuyor, ân-ı seyyâlesinin ebedî bir ömre bedel olduğunu, ebedî bir ömür değerinde olduğunu duyuyoruz Ramazan-ı şerifte.
Ramadan comes with all these gifts, and pours them down onto us.
God willing, it shall be so again. İnşaallah yine öyle olur.
Unfortunately, there are calamities and misfortunes that we are facing today. Günümüzde içinde bulunduğumuz bir kısım dâhiyeler, belâlar, musibetler.
Being exposed to injustice. Hani başta birilerinin zulmüne maruz kalma, haksızlıklara maruz kalma.
It is quite difficult to overlook these. Bunları görmezden gelmek çok zordur.
But we must try to overlook them as much as we can and refer them to God Almighty.  Ama elden geldiğince görmezden gelmeye çalışmalı; meseleyi Allah'a havale etmeli.
God is utterly Just. Allah, âdil-i mutlaktır.
'Such-and-such did this, so-and-so did that.' Böyle, "Falan size şunu yaptı, filan size bunu yaptı!"
If you solely attempt to punish others, that would not be appropriate as you cannot be the one to punish.
Sometimes the crime and punishment is so grand that when you attempt to implement it, you would be intervening the sphere of Divinity, which would be disrespectful.
Also in terms of our human values and vision, you cannot implement that punishment.
Everyone acts according to their own character. Herkes karakterinin gereğini sergiler.
You cannot force goodness onto those who have characters open to evil.  Karakteri kötülüklere açık bir insana, zorla iyilik yaptırtamazsınız;
Even if you succeed once, on another occasion, they will appear before you with their evil feelings.  bir kere yaptırtsanız bile, bir başka zaman yine karşınıza kötülük duyguları ile çıkar;
Perhaps they will behave humanly once, and behave with their character ten times. bir defasında belki insanca davranır, on defa karakterine göre hareket eder.
Consequently, if you occupy yourself with those kinds of things, you will be neglecting the things you have to attend to. Dolayısıyla, o türlü şeyler ile meşgul olduğunuz zaman, meşgul olacağınız şeyleri ihmal etmiş olursunuz.
We should not occupy ourselves with such worldly troubles.
There is a saying: Vardı, hani bir vecizede vardı:
'Those who trouble themselves with the world will have troubles as vast as the world.' "Derdi dünya olanın, dünya kadar derdi olur!"
I think we should not be troubled over any worldly matters; inevitably, they will come and go. Bence dünyaya ait hiçbir meseleyi dert edinmemek lazım; nasıl olsa gelip-geçicidir bunlar.
If you give them importance and overemphasise them, you will be crushed under it. Onlara ehemmiyet verir, onları gözünüzde büyütürseniz, onların altında kalır ezilirsiniz.
Be cautious and ignore these matters as much as possible. Elden geldiğince o mevzuda temkinli olmalı ve görmezden gelmeli onları.
They are displaying their character. Karakterlerinin gereğini yapıyor.
'Say: "Everyone acts according to his own character" (made up of his creed, worldview and disposition)' (Al-Isra, 17:84). "Her insan kendi seciye ve karakterine göre davranır." (İsrâ, 17:84).
'O you who believe! "Ey iman edenler!
Your responsibility is your selves. Siz kendinizi düzeltmeye bakın!
Those who go astray can do you no harm if you yourselves are guided' (Al-Maedah, 5:105). Siz doğru yolda olduktan sonra sapanlar size zarar veremez." (Mâide, 5:105).
The Qur'an states, 'Your responsibility is your selves'. "Kendinize bakın!" diyor Kur'an-ı kerim.
Try to see your shortcomings. Kendi kusurlarınızı görmeye çalışın.
When so-and-so oppresses you, 'I wonder which of our obligations we showed shortcomings in towards our Lord that He troubled us'. Falan size zulmettiği zaman bile, "Acaba biz, Rabbimize karşı vazife ve sorumluluklarımızın hangisinde kusur yaptık ki, Cenâb-ı Hak, birilerini bize musallat etti!"
God will afflict us with this virus, an earthquake, the breaking of tectonic plates. He will afflict us with locust swarms, pigeons; it will go on and on. Şu virüsü musallat eder Allah, zelzeleyi musallat eder, fay kırılmasını musallat eder, çekirgeyi musallat eder, güvercini musallat eder, eder eder, Allah celle celâluhu.
God Almighty only delays; He does not neglect. He may delay a matter. Ancak Allah'ın (celle celâluhu) "imhal"leri vardır; "ihmal"leri değil, "imhal"leri vardır.
He can give time for people to change, as He is the All-Merciful, the Lord of the Worlds. Mehil verir, Erhamü'r-Râhimîn'dir O (celle celâluhu), Rabbü'l-âlemîn'dir.
If He were to punish as soon as one were to make a mistake, as the Holy Qur'an states in many different places in a variety of expressions, there would not be a single living thing on earth. Herkes böyle bir kusur işlediğinde onu hemen cezalandırırsa, yeryüzünde -yine Kur'an-ı Kerim'in değişik yerlerde farklı ifadelerle beyan buyurduğu gibi- yürüyen bir tane canlı kalmaz.
Yes, because everyone commits a sin or some type of oppression, one way or another. Evet, çünkü herkes şöyle-böyle bir günah işler, bir zulümde bulunur.
Thus when God punishes one, they will be gone; if He punishes another, they will be gone, and so forth until there is no one left. Dolayısıyla Allah onu cezalandırınca, o gider; şunu cezalandırınca, o gider; bunu cezalandırınca, o gider; hiç kimse kalmaz.
Whereas that is not the case. Oysaki öyle değil.
God delays matters so that people can come to their senses, give up that mistake, seek good deeds, run towards cleansing, and so God can pardon and forgive them. Allah'ın (celle celâluhu) imhalleri vardır ki insan kendine gelsin, aklını başına alsın, o kusurdan vazgeçsin, sevaba yönelsin, arınmaya koşsun, Allah (celle celâluhu) da onu bağışlasın, affetsin.
'My God, undoubtedly you are the All-Pardoning from the glory of forgiveness. When the beauty of pardon is mentioned, you are the sole All-Munificent One that comes to mind; you love to forgive. "Allahım, şüphesiz Sen affetmek şanından olan Afüvv, ikram u ihsan denince akla gelen yegâne Kerim'sin; affetmeyi çok seversin.
Forgive us, O the All-Merciful! Bizi affeyle, ey Erhamerrahimîn.
Forgive us, show us Your mercy. Bizi yarlığa, merhamet buyur bize.
O the All-Forgiving, the Concealer, pardon our sins completely, conceal all of our faults.' Ey Gaffâr, ey Settâr, günahlarımızın tamamını mağfiret buyur; bütün ayıplarımızı setreyle."
I could add here: Hatta bu arada şunu da diyebilirim:
This virus right now; Şimdi şu anda bir virüs.
Only God knows how much it makes me cry. Bunun beni ne kadar ağlattığını, Allah bilir.
I say to my friends maybe every day: Her gün belki arkadaşlarıma diyorum:
Form choirs of prayers, appeals, pleas in different places of the world; Appeal to God Almighty as a collective. Dünyanın değişik yerlerinde dua, teveccüh, münâcaat koroları oluşturun; Cenâb-ı Hakk'a toptan teveccüh edin.
As the Honourable Sage Bediüzzaman says: Üstadımızın buyurduğu gibi:
'Just as charity alleviates calamity, the sincere prayers of the majority will attract the relief of the community.'  "Nasıl sadaka belayı ref' eder; aynen öyle, ekseriyetin hâlisâne duası da ferec-i umumîyi cezbeder."
He says, 'attracts' there.  "Cezb" tabirini kullanıyor, "cezbeder" diyor.
Thus, to appeal to God Almighty by forming choirs of prayers, to wish for Him to alleviate this trial He has afflicted upon humanity as soon as possible. Dolayısıyla, değişik yerlerde -böyle- dua koroları oluşturmak suretiyle Cenâb-ı Hakk'a teveccühte bulunarak, insanlığa musallat ettiği şu şeyi bir an evvel kaldırmasını O'ndan dilemek.
This will be a source of hope for humanity, too.
'Truly, there was an open door!' they will say. "Hakikaten böyle bir açık kapı varmış meğer!" derler.
And you will also be teaching others the appropriate ways. Hem başkalarına da bir yol-yöntem öğretmiş olursunuz.
And indeed, your Jewish friends, and those from different Jewish sects as well as your Christian friends, and those from different Christian sects come together in prostration and prayer, they say, 'O God! Bakın, şimdi Yahudi, Hıristiyan, Hıristiyanlığın değişik mezhepleri, Yahudilerin değişik mezhepleri filan, sizin arkadaşlarınız ile değişik yerlerde secdeye kapanıyorlar, dua ediyorlar; "Allah'ım!
Protect humanity from this affliction and calamity!' İnsanlığı bu dâhiyeden, bu beladan, bu mesâibden halâs eyle!" diyorlar.
God Almighty has given you an alternate path in which to gain rewards.
And this commenced in the three holy months Rajab, Shaban, and now Ramadan.
Ramadan has come, but the pandemic continues.  Ramazan geldi-dayandı ama salgın/musibet devam ediyor.
Some say, 'a different version of the virus will come soon after'.  "Onun farklı versiyonları arkadan gelecek!" filan diyor bazıları.
'Soon it will enter a mutation and introduce itself in a new form' they say. "Mutasyonlarla, değişikliklere uğrayarak, farklı bir formda yeniden karşınıza çıkacak, bu defa farklı şekilde sizi tırpanlayacak, hafizanallah, yere serecek!" diyorlar.
In the face of all this, there is nothing to do but turn to the comprehensive Divine Will. Bütün bunlar karşısında o "Kuvve-i Kâhire"ye, "Kuvve-i Bâhire"ye, "İrâde-i Şâmile"ye, "İrâde-i Muhîte"ye teveccüh etmekten başka çareniz yok.
You must turn to God; 'O God! Cenâb-ı Hakk'a teveccüh edeceksiniz; "Allah'ım!
Dispel this'. Sav bunları!" falan diyeceksiniz.
In these blessed months, it is crucial to be involved in invocation and humble devotion and supplication.
God brought them all together, at the same time the rewards for fasting, for waking up at night.  Allah, ona denk getirdi; hem Ramazan'ın sevabı, hem orucun sevabı, hem geceleri kalkıp ihya etmenin sevabı.
The rewards for praying the forgotten Tahajjud, the Night Vigil.  Unutulmuş teheccüdleri kılmanın sevabı.
To feel a deep connection with the prostration, as mentioned in a Prophetic Tradition, to be at the closest point with God. Secdeyi derinlemesine duymanın, hadiste buyurulduğu üzere O'na (celle celâluhu) en yakın olma hâlini duymanın sevabı.
Truly, when you put your head on the ground when you are closest to Him, you say, 'O God!
Please bestow this and that'. This gives you a sense you are in a state of constant awareness of the omnipresence of God Ne olur şunu lütfeyle, bunu lütfeyle!" deme mevzuu, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın ayrı bir lütfu, ayrı bir ihsanı oluyor size.
At the same time, declaring and thinking, 'This nation persecuted another, this is the reason why they are suffering' as a way to attribute the reason behind these trials to others is not something we should do.
In interpreting these calamities and misfortunes, one must see them coming from oneself.  Bu türlü bela ve musibetlerde -antrparantez arz ediyorum- elden geldiğince, insan, her şeyi kendinden bilmeli.
Why did these misfortunes strike us? Niye bu bela ve musibetler geldi?
'It could be because of me. "Benim yüzümden olabilir.
I could not make use of the opportunities that God bestowed upon me.  Ben, Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın bana lütfettiği o imkanları tam, yerinde, rantabl olarak değerlendirmedim.
This is why, the Ultimate and Ever-Constant God is cleansing me with trials like this.
God is reminding us, 'Get your mind together, I am here!' 'Aklını başına topla, bak, Ben varım!' diyor" demeli ve böyle düşünmeli.
Otherwise, with the arrival of such calamities, declaring, 'It is because of this person, or that!' is a form of disrespect towards God.  Yoksa böyle belalar ve musibetler geldiğinde, "Falanların yüzünden geldi, bak onlar da işte burada kıvranıyorlar!" falan demek, Allah'a karşı ayrı bir saygısızlıktır.
Attributing blame on others apart from oneself, seeing oneself as perfect and without fault is not right. Suçu başkalarında arama, yine kendini pâk, temiz, müzekkâ görme, doğru değildir.
Trying to purify oneself without holding oneself accountable is a serious fault. Tezkiye-i nefissiz, tezkiye-i nefiste bulunma mevzuu, çok ciddi bir yanlıştır.
(In other words, claiming to have a purified soul without this being the truth and speaking so is a serious fault). (Yani, tezkiyesiz nefs-i emmâresi bulunanın, nefsinin tezkiyesinden dem vurması, büyük bir hatadır.)
You are not pure, so do not regard yourself as the most perfect person.  Müzekkâ olmadığından, sen, kendini o temiz insan görmemelisin.
Having a soul that is refined and grown in purity is another issue, this is above us, it is for those great ones closely connected to God.
As a side note. Antrparantez dedim.
Today, in our experiences, thoughts such as these, these observations and discussions are very important.
Thinking and feeling that people are facing revenge for their actions, talking about this. Evet, böyle fikren, zihnen, kelâm-ı nefsiyle, insanlardan intikam alıyor gibi konuşma, falan.
'They deserved this, how God deals with you', etc.  "Alın, çekin işte; Allah (celle celâluhu) nasıl hakkınızdan geliyor sizin!" filan deme.
Maybe God would take our and their lives, punish us and them both.
We should not think like this, we should attribute it to ourselves 'This may have occurred because of us, God knows best'. Öyle değil de esasen meseleyi kendimize bağlayarak "Bizim yüzümüzden oldu, Allahu a'lem.
'May God Almighty forgive us and everyone else' is a better thing to say.
A few days ago, a person passed away.  Efendim, bir-iki gün evvel bir zat vefat etti.
I prayed for him earnestly with tears in my eyes.  Bir-iki gün ona çok ağlayarak dua ettim burada.
However, for many different reasons, he always used to say: Fakat değişik vesileler ile hep ifadesi şu olmuştu o hazretin:
'As long as I have been alive, I have struggled against this movement, tried to way lay them, hurt them'. "Ben kendimi bildiğimden bu yana hep bunlar ile meşgul oldum, hep bunları meşgul ettim, bunları ben tanıttım; bunların hakkından gelmeye çalıştım!" falan.
Yet, I will pray as such: 'O my Lord! This person is coming to You. He was observing the prescribed Prayers, he was fasting, he was telling the religion to others;  Şimdi "Ya Rabbi, Sana geliyor bu; namaz kılıyordu, oruç tutuyordu, bir sürü insana da dini-diyaneti anlatıyordu;
please, don't punish him for the things he said about our movement'. ne olur, şu bize yaptığı şeylerden dolayı bunu cezalandırma; ne olur, bahtına düştüm Senin!" deyip durdum.
Yes, God is my witness. Evet, Allah şahit.
Being a human is something else; this does not refer to 'being superior', simply 'being a human' is something different.
And this always has to do with respecting humanity.
Humankind is honoured with the 'best of stature. İnsan, "ahsen-i takvîm"e mazhardır;
He is a fantastic and praiseworthy art of Almighty God. Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın acîb bir sanatı, şâyân-ı takdir bir sanatıdır.
He is worth utmost respect, value and veneration.
God, may He be glorified and exalted, is the All-Aware and the All-Seeing. O (celle celâluhu), Habîr u Basîr, her şeyden haberdardır.
I've mentioned on different occasions: Hani değişik vesileler ile arz etmişimdir:
Muhammad Iqbal says: Doktor İkbal diyor ki:
'I would always read the Qur'an with utmost sensitivity.' "Hep Kur'an-ı Kerim'i kemâl-i hassasiyetle okurdum."
That is true; he would actually read the Qur'an in such way. Hakikaten de öyle okuyordur.
For instance, I think he stayed in England for sixteen years and he never missed the Night Vigil.
Whereas, the Night Vigil is forgotten in Turkey, tell me if such thing as 'Night Vigil' is known?
He never missed it there. Kaçırmamış onu orada.
He always used to read the Qur'an with utmost sensitivity. Hep Kur'an-ı Kerim'i okuyor, kemâl-i hassasiyetle.
'My dad used to tell me: "Babam diyordu ki bana:
Son, read the Qur'an as if it was revealed to you, not to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him!' Oğlum, Hazreti Muhammed'e (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) inmiş Kur'an'ı, O'na inmiş bir Kur'an gibi değil, sana inmiş bir Kur'an gibi oku!"
That's what he used to say. Öyle diyor.
Now the reality here is considering yourself as the addressee. Şimdi işin esası, o; hep kendini muhatap olarak ele alma orada.
The addressee in all of its forms. Ama her şeyiyle kendini muhatap olarak alma.
'Whatever God told our noble Prophet, God is telling it to me as well but this is done indirectly and relatively!' "Efendimiz'e ne demiş ise Cenâb-ı Hak, bana diyor bunu; fakat zılliyet planında, izafi planda bana diyor Allah (celle celâluhu) bunu!"
No one has the right to object this. Buna kimsenin itiraz etmeye hakkı da yoktur.
This has always been understood this way Bu, öteden beri de öyle anlaşılmıştır.
I believe this spirit has now been killed in our society. Şimdi zannediyorum toplumumuzda bu ruh öldürüldü tamamen.
The Qur'an, as some insolent people say, is seen as 'a book that was allegedly brought down from the skies'. Kur'an-ı Kerim, birilerinin küstahlık yapıp ağızlarından kaçırdıkları gibi "On dört asır evvel gökten indiği zannedilen Kur'an-ı Kerim" olarak görülüyor.
Well, it is not possible for these people to hear the miraculous words of the Qur'an in their hearts in any depth. Efendim, bunların, ona öyle bakanların, o Kur'an-ı Kerim'in, o mucizevâri, muciz-beyân beyanı kendi derinlikleri ile duymaları mümkün değildir.
Firstly one needs to read a lot and continuously. Bir kere çok okuma, sürekli okuma, lâ-akall.
I do not know how many people of today read the whole Qur'an once a year. Ee günümüzde -bilmiyorum- senede bir kere Kur'an-ı Kerim'i hatmeden var mı?
In Ramadan, if God wills, at least once.
As you know, the Righteous Predecessors would recite the entire Qur'an at least once every 10-15 days. Selef-i Sâlihîn -bildiğiniz gibi- Ramazan'ın dışında, on-on beş günde bir hatim yapıyorlar.
In Ramadan, they would do so every 3 days. Ramazan gelince, üç günde bir yapıyorlar.
In the last 10 days of Ramadan, in the event that day is the Night of Destiny and Power, they would recite it every single night.  Ramazan'ın son on gününde, Kadir gecesine rastlar diye, her gün bir kere Kur'an-ı Kerim'i hatmediyorlar.
We see this manifest in their forms as honourable people, in their lifestyles, in their character and ways. Onu da yine rical oğlu rical (er oğlu erler)de, onların hayat tarzlarına, üsluplarına bakınca onlarda görebiliyorsunuz.
They fulfil their duty in this way.  Onlar, onu o şekilde yerine getiriyorlar.
This spirit and interpretation is dead; as it pertains to us.
This should be recommended and returned to. Bu, telkin edilmeli esasen.
At the same time, the things that charm us and inspire us, they should be emphasised.  Aynı zamanda bizi büyüleyen şeyler nelerdir, onları da vurgulamalı, arada vurgulamalı.
Even an illiterate man like me, whilst reading the Qur'an... Hani benim gibi bir ümmî bile Kur'an-ı Kerim'i okurken.
The Qur'an is in front of me, I look at it whilst praying. Önümde Kur'an-ı Kerim, namaz kılarken bakıyorum ona.
At times, in terms of the relationships between verses, it appears as such a magical thing to me, I feel overwhelmed.
If such a lay-person, imperfect Muslim like me feels it to this degree, then those who fully focus would feel, when they say: "Alif, Lam, Mim.  Ee benim gibi bir insan, yarım-yamalak Müslüman o kadar hissediyorsa, demek ki böyle bütün gönlüyle ona teveccüh eden bir insan, "Elif, lâm, mim.
This is the (most honoured, matchless) Book:  İşte Kitap!
There is no doubt about it.  Şüphe yoktur onda.
Guidance for the righteous' (Baqarah, 2:1-2) they would see the entire text as a map spread before them and feel as though they are reading it in front of God.
'These are Your words, O my God! "Senin beyanın Allah'ım!
This is what I say: Bunu ifade ediyorum ben:
I acknowledge and submit. I acknowledge in its entirety'. Kabul ettim, aynıyla bunu kabul ettim!" falan diyor gibi.
Feeling in this way, this person will experience very unique things.  Kendini öyle, o konumda hissetmesi neticesinde çok farklı şeyler duyar.
And then there are those who turn to it with their hearts.  Bir de yürekten ona teveccüh edenler.
The Qur'an has a way of turning to us as well. Onun (Kur'an'ın) insana teveccühü vardır.
Turning to something causes reciprocation.  Teveccüh, teveccüh doğurur.
If you give attention and favour, you will receive attention and favour. Teveccüh ederseniz, teveccühe vesile olur o teveccüh.
Therefore, these concepts should be studied in depth, and the fact that the Qur'an is not the speech of a man should be emphasised well.  Dolayısıyla, zannediyorum, bu türlü meseleler üzerinde derinlemesine durularak, esasen, Kur'an-ı Kerim'in, öyle sıradan birinin beyanı olmadığı çok iyi işlenmeli.
For example, not 'A book that was allegedly brought down from the skies'. Efendim, "On dört asır evvel gökten indiği zannedilen."
Not 'allegedly'.  Hayır "zannedilen" değil.
But to say, 'I may be a vision, an imagined being, but the fact that the Qur'an is from God is definite, absolute, without doubt, unequivocal'.  "Ben yalan olabilirim, ben hayal olabilirim; fakat onun Allah'tan geldiği kat'iyyen ve kâtıbeten."
When it isn't attributed to Almighty God, you are unable to explain this in reality.  Cenâb-ı Hakk'a verilmeyince, onu izah edemezsiniz esasen.
There is such an enchantment in it, when you begin to read and understand it correctly, in essence, you are saying, 'This is enough for me'.
There is such depth to it.  Öyle bir derinliği vardır onun.
This cannot be seen on the text, on the pages, in truth it appears with a deep heart, a heart like a lens, a plectrum to pluck the strings of the heart, to feel it in your spirit, that plectrum will allow those Divine sounds to be heard, with God's permission and grace.
Now to try to realise this, in essence it can lead to a new 'Qur'anic Age' with God's permission and grace.  Şimdi bunu sürekli seslendirmek suretiyle, esasen, yeniden bir "Kur'an Çağı" olabilir, Allah'ın izni-inayeti ile,
Just like the Honourable Sage Bediüzzaman, in one way, would investigate every detail of the Qur'an. Hazreti Pîr-i Mugân, Şem'-i Tâbân gibi, bir yönüyle, o Kur'an-ı Kerim'i o ölçüde hallaç ederek.
Necip Fazıl would use the term 'to investigate every detail of existence'; he would say, 'to investigate every detail of the creative commands'.  Üstad Necip Fazıl, "eşya ve hadiseleri hallaç etme" tabirini kullanırdı; "tekvinî emirleri hallaç etme" derdi.
By investigating every detail of the Qur'an... Kur'an-ı Kerim'i bu şekilde hallaç etmek suretiyle.
'I have faith in the existence of God, His angels, His Prophets, His Books, the Day of Judgement, Divine Destiny, and that good and evil is created by God. "Allah'a, meleklerine, peygamberlerine, kitaplarına, âhiret gününe, kadere, hayır ve şerrin Allah Teâlâ'dan olduğuna iman ettim.
I believe... İnandım:
I believe that the Resurrection is the truth'. Öldükten sonra dirilmek haktır."
All of these truths are in the Qur'an.
You can connect these realities to three truths. Bunların hepsini üç tane hakikate ircâ edebilirsiniz.
As a matter of fact they have; Ghazali, the Honourable Sage Bediüzzaman both say the same thing. Nitekim etmişler; Gazzâlî de, Hazreti Pîr de ircâ ediyor aynı zamanda.
But to hear the Qur'an in that way is very important. Ama Kur'an-ı Kerim'i öyle duyma çok önemlidir.
To make it heard is the duty of those who have heard the Qur'an. Duyurma da Kur'an-ı Kerim'i duyanların vazifesidir.
If a person has heard it, then they must pass it on and make it be heard. İnsan duymuş ise şayet, duyuracaktır onu.
One will think, 'How is it that mankind can act so heedless?'; one will think like the Companions and the great Successors. "Nasıl oluyor da insanlar -böyle- gâfilâne davranıyor; buna bakmıyorlar?" diyecektir; Sahabe-i Kiram gibi, Tâbiîn-i Izâm gibi düşünecektir:
'That is the Qur'an but where are the tears? "O Kur'an'ı Kerim ama gözyaşları nerede?
Where is the excitement of the heart? Kalbin heyecanı nerede?
Where is the shivering of the heart?' Kalbin titremesi nerede?"
Yes, we must establish these feelings in people. Evet, insanlarda o duyguyu oluşturmak lazım.
We must take away the prescribed Prayer from dead soul, make people declare, 'I want to hear those verses again!' and run back to the prescribed Prayer.  Ölü ruhların elinden alarak onu, hakikaten "Yahu bir kere daha duyayım!" diye namaza koşma ruhunu canlandırmak lazım.
Holding the Qur'an, kissing it and paying respects to it... Kur'an'ı eline alma, öpme, başına koyma.
Then to be in a state of reverence to it as if kneeling out of respect.
I believe this is a matter to be fulfilled by people of expertise in our day and age.
By experts I do not refer to so-called academics. Uzman dediğim, kitapların satırlarında düktor (!), dû-cent (!), dû-cennet (!), profesör değil.
Essentially, the people of spirit, heart, sentiment, and consciousness... Esasen ruh insanları, kalb insanları, his insanları, şuur insanları.
It seems to me that this is a matter which needs to be reminded often and persistently.
In previous years, we read the Qur'an with its translation throughout Ramadan.  Önceki senelerde Ramazan boyunca Kur'an-ı Kerim'i meali ile beraber okuyorduk;
It would require reading plenty in the morning and night to finish one part, and by the end of the month the recitation of the whole Qur'an would be completed. sabah-akşam okumak suretiyle bir cüz okunuyordu, hiç olmazsa ayda bir kere bir hatim oluyordu.
Through such a process, maybe some people developed a desire to recite the entire Qur'an in a fortnight. Böyle işleye işleye, belki başkalarına on beş günde bir hatim yapma duygusu aşılanmış olurdu.
If nothing else, people would be inspired to recite the entire Qur'an twelve times a year. Hiç olmazsa ayda bir, senede on iki defa Kur'an-ı Kerim'i hatmetme aşılanmış olurdu.
Imam Abu Yusuf provides the verdict that 'There is no issue in reciting the Qur'an by looking at it in supererogatory Prayers.' İmam-ı Ebu Yusuf hazretleri, "Nafile namazlarda Kur'an'a bakarak okumada mahzur yoktur" diyor; onun özel fetvası, tercihi.
At least, reciting the Qur'an like that... Hani en azından Kur'an-ı Kerim'i öyle okuma.
Or to read through the interpretation before reciting those verses in the Prayer, and to pray with that spirit.
Not to pray while thinking of the interpretation, but to understand the message conveyed prior to praying and to pray with that understanding.
Some of our friends are doing this at the moment, and they should continue. Arkadaşlarımızın bazıları yapıyor, şu anda bunu yapıyorlar; yapmaya da devam etmek lazım.
We must once again make this our priority. Yabancılaştığımız bu meseleyi yeniden temel mevzuumuz haline, temel konumuz haline getirmek lazım.
We must once again become integrated with the Qur'an.
'Fourteen hundred years have passed!' "Aradan bin dört yüz sene geçmiş!"
Some may look at it from afar, but we must look at it as if it was revealed directly to us only recently. Elin-âlemin öyle uzaktan ona bakmasına mukabil, hemen yeni, bize nazil olmuş gibi bakmak lazım.
'My God! "Allah Allah!
As though it was revealed specifically for me today. Yahu aynen, bugün bana iniyor gibi.
I see that it is so integrated with my feelings.'
May God Almighty grant this to everyone. Cenâb-ı Hak, cümleye nasip etsin.
Itikaf (retreat) actually has its own conditions. Aslında itikâfın da kendine göre şartları var;
One must stay in the masjid, refrain from unimportant matters, turn their back to worldly matters, must turn absolutely to the Hereafter. mesela insanın mescitte olması lazım, fuzûliyâttan uzak durması lazım, dünyeviliğe karşı sırtını dönmesi lazım, tamamen uhrevîliğe müteveccih olması lazım.
In fact, it could be done in that sense.
God Almighty has put us in compulsory isolation. Cenâb-ı Hak bizi mecburî bir halvete itmiş.
'We shouldn't leave the house, we shouldn't come in contact with others, we must not contract anything onto ourselves!' are being said. Efendim, "Çıkmayalım dışarıya, başkalarıyla görüşmeyelim, kendimize bir şey bulaştırmayalım!" filan deniyor.
At the same time, we really need to get in touch with something from that perspective, with regards to our rapport with God, with regards to our rapport with the Qur'an.
Nowadays, we are facing calamities, misfortunes, viruses. Şimdi hep bela/musibet/virüs saçılıp dolaşıyor.
To take refuge in God Almighty's protection, grace and guard by running away from them. Onlardan kaçarak -bir yönüyle- Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın himâyesine, inayetine, sıyanetine sığınma.
To say 'My Lord! "Allah'ım!
Protect us, preserve us!' Bizi koru, muhafaza buyur!" deme.
I also make such a prayer; I say that: Bir de Kıtmîr şöyle bir dua da ediyor; diyorum ki:
'My Lord! "Allah'ım!
Take all the blessings, no matter how many there may be, such as service of faith, establishing educational facilities at various places, warning people, that you have granted us, for example, myself, our brothers and sisters, our friends, our supporters, our sympathisers, people who love us, as deposit under your Divine sight;  Bize -mesela bu Kıtmîr'e, kardeşlerimize, dostlarımıza, taraftarlarımıza, muhiplerimize, sempatizanlarımıza- lütfeylediğin şeyleri -yani dine-imana hizmet gibi, değişik yerlerde eğitim müesseseleri açmak gibi, insanlığı uyarma gibi, ne kadar nimet lütfetmiş isen, bunların hepsini- nezd-i Ulûhiyetine emanet olarak al;
You, yourself protect them; so that no one else can harm them. Sen, Kendin koru; başkaları ona zarar vermesin.
Take them as deposits under your Divine sight, and protect them, please O my God!' Nezd-i Ulûhiyetine emanet olarak al, koru bunu, ne olur Allah'ım!"
I have been feeling like uttering this many times. Böyle demek geliyor içimden çok defa.
Well, if God wills, it will be that way. Evet, inşaallah öyle olur.
To a certain extent, it was that way. Bir ölçüde öyleydi.
However, one must say, 'If only we had done justice to that position, God Almighty would not have inflicted some people upon us!' so that, essentially, we can place ourselves in order again.
Otherwise, God forbid, we would commit gossip, slander, reproach just by blaming others.  Yoksa hafizanallah sadece başkalarını suçlamak suretiyle gıybete gireriz, iftiraya gireriz, ayıplamaya gireriz.
Inspired by a noble saying of the Prophet, you can add some words. Hadis-i Şerif'ten mülhem,
You can say: Bunların hepsini diyebilirsiniz:
'O God, forgive us and the ones whom we deemed erroneous, and the ones whom we talked ill of, all of them and everybody!' "Allah'ım, bizi ve kendilerine hata nisbet ettiklerimizi, ta'yîrde bulunduklarımızı (ayıpladıklarımızı) hepsini/herkesi mağfiret buyur Allah'ım!"
By doing so, you will be acting with a vast, profound conscience. Böyle demek suretiyle, bir engin vicdanla hareket etmiş olursunuz.
